The early life of Totaram Sanadhya
Totaram Sanadhya was born in Hirangi

to all his poverty was usurped by the moneylenders who gave loans. Their elder
brother left his home and went to Calcutta to earn money for the livelihood of their family. There he
started working as an accountant and after few days he died. Now, the condition
of his family remained very pathetic. Now, Totaram Sanadhya decides to left home
considering himself as a burden on his family. Finally, he left their home in
1893 and went out in search of work.
Searching of employment
Wandering in search of employment, he
falls into the hands of an Arcati (A contractor who does the work
of sending porters, laborers, etc. abroad) who suggested he go to Fiji.
Showing Sabzbag (pretend to be
false), he said, "Look brother, where you work, you will not have to
suffer. you will not have any problem there. Eating a lot of sugarcane and
bananas and living peacefully."
Totaram wanted to get rid of poverty. Got ready in a hurry. In a few days, all the formalities were completed.
Totaram was told that in Fiji he would get 12 annas a day and would have to do farming work for 5 years. If he returns from there after five years, he will have to pay the rent on her own and if he returns after 10 years, the government will pay the rent from her own hands. There he can earn a lot of money. There is great joy there. What is Fiji - simply, it is heaven!
Now Totaram was considering himself lucky by boarding the ship. The ship reached Fiji in three months via sea voyage to Singapore, Borneo, etc.
Thus he reached Fiji in 1893 as an indentured laborer.
There he was very disturbed by
the condition of the Indian laborers and started working for their welfare.
